What to do in General Santos City

Located in the Southern part of the Philippines, General Santos city is near Sarangani Province, South Catabato, and Alabel. Surrounded by peaceful farmlands, beautiful rivers, lakes and coastal beaches, it is a great place for a laid back vacation. Beautiful scenery can be explored at nearby Lake Maughan in T’Boli, South Cotabato. You will also find plenty of beaches and coastline, as well as farms and plantations and other sights. You can also see many of the nearby tribal peoples who live in the area. Many of the local hotels are small with only 25 to 50 rooms, but many come with comfortable amenities and you won’t feel overcrowded.

A Variety of Fresh Fruit

Lovers of fresh fruit may enjoy a stay nearby. Throughout the city, many fresh fruits and vegetables are sold. You can find bananas, pineapples, watermelon, mangoes, guava, apples and grapefruit. Other fruits you might want to try are local to the area like lansones, durian, jackfruit and lyches. Throughout the city you’ll find many friendly people, who come from all over the various islands such as Luzon, Visayas and parts of Mindanao, because the area is in a state of economic growth. Much of the boom is due to the local fishing industry that supplies Japan with fresh yellow fin tuna.

Friendly People

Some of the mix of people you will see here are Christians, Muslims and tribal people like the T’Boli and Blaan. The T’boli live a secluded life where they are known for the quality of their brassware and weaving. You can see many of the T’Boli out in their tribal dress at their Saturday market.
