What to do in Manila

In Manila you will discover the history of the last 400 years. You can stroll along the streets of the walled city of Intramuros to Fort Santiago. Founded in 1571, it took almost 150 years to build. Looking off to the sea, you can learn about and imagine the pirates and invaders who tried to land here. The “Shrine of Freedom” commemorates Filipinos imprisoned in the fort and killed during the Spanish and Japanese eras. There is a park and a promenade used for a theatre company to perform traditional and modern plays.

Jungle adventure

If your looking for some adventure on your travels, you might want to try the Jungle Environmental Survival Training school. Here you will get an idea how to survive without electricity in the jungle. Courses range from a basic techniques to a full 7 day program. Definitely not for the faint at heart. You’ll see many jungle residents like large snakes.

Romance in the air

Meandering through the historical Rizal Park, you may be able to catch an open air concert. This is one of the largest parks in the country. You will definitely get a better feel for the cities many inhabitants if you enjoy people-watching. If you are looking for romance, you will be able to hop a calesa, a horse driven carriage, enjoying the city as you go.

A museum of the sea

You can also explore the Carfel Seashell Museum. If you love seashells, you will be about to see many rarities like Conus gloriamaris (Glory of the Sea) and hundreds of other specimens. It is a beautiful museum that many tourists enjoy.
